This past Saturday, Mya Swain represented UPCS 6-12 at the regional Poetry Out Loud competition at the Pittsburgh Center for the Arts. She memorized and recited three different poems of literary merit from the POL website for an audience. She competed against students from CAPA, Lincoln Park Performing Arts Charter School and Westinghouse Arts Academy, among others. She definitely made herself and us proud. Dr. Pat Sheahan from Duquesne University’s School of Education was the emcee, and she stopped to say how well she thought Mya had done during the break.
