The City Environment

There is no better or more exciting place in which to live, to raise children, and to come of age than the City of Pittsburgh. Our pedagogy and practice affirms this by adopting the practice of exploring the political, cultural, ecological, and industrial environment of Pittsburgh and the surrounding region as a rich and diverse resource for learning. Our surrounding community, its problems, its struggles, its possibilities are valuable environments for learning and action. We believe that the local environment is an ideal "laboratory" that will serve multiple ends through an educational program that emphasizes theme-based coursework and extensive field-based project work.
