Tracey and our steel band have been working with the Pittsburgh Office of Public Arts and Dutch artist Allard van Hoorn for the past year. Finally, the project is set to start – tonight with the special added Gallery Crawl, for Pittsburgh’s 200th Anniversary.
This article fills in the details about the collaboration:
Steelpan players and Ms. Whorton created music as part of the Market Square Public Art installation Mix-N-Match. They worked with Dutch Artist Allard van Hoorn, who created music from sounds they made by playing the Smithfield Street Bridge. The sounds they made could be heard as one of several tracks that van Hoorn created to turn Market Square into a giant record player.
